During the fourth week of classes, the Children’s Health Guides sent a very cheerful Musical Health Gift. Peter woke up from the sound of someone breathing softly in his ear. He opened his eyes and saw a playful hedgehog who wanted to have fun with him.

“ F-F-F – Hello!”- said the Hedgehog. “It is time now to learn how to crawl quickly, and even better – how to run on all fours, running on your hands and knees. The key is to move and breath together.”

Peter jumped out of bed, tried to run on all fours, but then immediately felt tired. “Phew!” said Peter.

“Exactly!” the Hedgehog exclaimed, that’s why I told you that while running on all fours you need to breathe with the movements. This will help you move and at the same time, improve your speech. Correct pronunciation of speech is called diction. Good breathing also helps support diction. Now,  before singing my song we have to complete another task for Viola, the daughter of music.

Today’s magic task will be the fourth magic of music – the Magic of the Poetic Word. The fact is that a lot of music is vocal – when we play music, a lot of time we sing music with instruments or while dancing. Vocal music is not only rhythm, melody and harmony, which you already know, but also has words. And the words in a song can sound very beautiful and clear, so that every word can be heard. And the words in the song are usually divided into verses that the poets and lyricists compose.

Today I’m going to train your poetic abilities. To do this, in the text of the songs, I’ve put three dots before the last word of the phrase. Before I say this final word, you must try to find a rhyme yourself. Rhymes are words that sound like each other, for example, ‘Cats and Bats’ or ‘Talk and Chalk’ Let’s start.”

The Hedgehog then began to read the words of the song, pausing where there were three dots. He read;

“Hedgehog, hedgehog,

He runs and runs…”

Peter suggested, “with buns!”

“for fun,” said the Hedgehog, “but the “buns” is also a very good rhyme!”

The Hedgehog continued, “I have prickly little thorns…”

“And horns!” Peter jumped in.

At that moment, a bright bell rang out. It was Viola who greeted Peter with the fourth magic of music – The Magic of the Poetic Word. The Hedgehog, pleased with Peter’s success, said, “Let’s train to have good diction and pick up rhythms even faster, so that you don’t get tiered so quickly. Come on!”

The Hedgehog song sounded.

Read the fairytale.

Listen to the song and imagine yourself as a Hedgehog

After class, Peter drew a big brown Hedgehog in his book of Musical Health. He then tested his speed by running as fast as he could for 10 meters. It turned out that after working with the Hedgehog he was able to run much faster.

He added his Hedgehog drawing to his collection of animal costumes. This new Hedgehog drawing and costume was in a tight bag with protruding soft needles and small slits for Peter’s head, arms and legs to come out. It was a lot of fun to run fast on all fours to the Hedgehog song! This became one of Peter’s favourites!
